Area-Based Conservation Futures: Rethinking Biodiversity Conservation with Indigenous and Traditional Communities

On 20 May 2026 , the ABC Futures project will host the  Area-Based Conservation Futures: Rethinking Biodiversity Conservation with Indigenous and Traditional Communities at Wageningen University & Research (Lumen 1 & 2) .

This one-day event brings together researchers, practitioners, policymakers, and Indigenous representatives to explore how Indigenous and community-led conservation is shaping biodiversity governance.

The program features insights from ABC Futures’ focus countries – Kenya, Suriname, Mozambique, and Brazil, alongside a Global Perspectives & Policy Dialogue with IPLCs, NGOs, and policymakers.

Interactive sessions, including a nature walk and roundtable discussion , will foster exchange on bridging local knowledge and global policy , and moving from knowledge to action.
