ABOUT Astracia Warner
Astracia Warner is a lecturer at the Anton de Kom University of Suriname, where she educates the next generation of public and environmental ‘change agents’ to contribute to sustainable development of Suriname and the wider region. She also serves as a board member of Fauna Conservation Suriname. With an academic background environmental science and public health, she has professional experience in the field of prevention and response to disease outbreaks. She is determined to contribute to the further integration of environment in public health from a One Health perspective.
Astracia is also PhD candidate with the ABC Futures project and affiliated with the Forest and Nature Conservation (FNP) group and the Wildlife Ecology and Conservation Group (WEC) at the Wageningen University and Research. Her research project is focused on the link between human- and animal health and nature conservation in indigenous communities in Suriname from a Social Ecological Systems and One Health perspective.
Her research is supervised by Prof. Bas Arts, Dr. Jelle Behagel, Dr. Helen Esser and Dr. Alida Kent.
