ABOUT Eduardo García-Frapolli
Dr. Eduardo García-Frapolli is a researcher at the Instituto de Institute for Research on Ecosystems and Sustainability (IIES) at Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM).
He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the Universidad Iberoamericana, a Master’s degree in Management and Public Policy from the University of Chile and a PhD in Environmental Sciences from the Autonomous University of Barcelona.
He currently coordinates the Laboratory of Ecological Economics at the Institute for Research on Ecosystems and Sustainability. His main research interest is investigating how public conservation policies interact with the livelihood strategies of rural communities. He has carried out most of his projects on the Yucatán Peninsula. He teaches courses in Ecological Economics at the Bachelor’s program in Environmental Sciences, and in Economic Theory and Tools for Sustainable Management at the Master’s program in Sustainability Sciences.
Before embarking on his academic career, he has worked at the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Rural Development (SAGARPA).
Within ABC Futures, Eduardo is co-promotor and supervisor of PhD candidate Jose Maria Casanova, whose research focus on power dynamics in the decision-making processes of protected areas across Central America.
