ABOUT Adrian Leitoro
Adrian Leitoro is co-founder and Team Lead of Nature and People as One (NaPO), a community-rooted organization with a vision to achieve a future where pastoralist communities in northern Kenya are universally recognised as the primary stewards of a thriving, resilient ecosystem where communities and wildlife coexist. Leitoro works at the intersection of pastoralist knowledge systems, governance structures and environmental stewardship, ensuring that indigenous pastoralist knowledge, worldviews and voices are recognized and centred in biodiversity conservation efforts. His academic work is deeply informed by his practical experience working alongside and being a member of the indigenous Rendille pastoralist communities in northern Kenya.
Leitoro’s Master’s degree in Climate Change Adaptation from the University of Nairobi, with specialized research in Nature Based Solutions in the African Savannas. His masters thesis focused on The Role Of Other Effective Area-Based Conservation Measures (OECMs) In Biodiversity Conservation – A Case Study Of The Areas Adjacent To The Marsabit National Park, Kenya.
